Sunday was all about getting the points, tonight Celtic can put on a show

Sunday was all about getting the points, all we want is an improved performance tonight with a statement victory…

We left Easter Road on Sunday with all three points thanks to a stunning winning goal courtesy of a decent Camilo Duran strike in an otherwise forgettable game. However in those difficult, stormy conditions, it was certainly more about collecting the three points than the quality of the performance so we really can’t complain as that’s all that mattered in the end.

Tonight we are back at Celtic Park to take on Dundee United, and just like Sunday the three points is what matters most for Martin O’Neill and his players. Yet from a supporters point of view we certainly expect to see an overall improvement in the performance on the pitch and after the last home match in the Scottish Premiership, Celtic can go into the match with high expectations.

Celtic hammered the 1960 Scottish Champions 7-1

After the high of the 7-1 thumping of Hearts we had to endure a miserable night against Celta Vigo at Paradise last Thursday night as our early Europa League woes continued. Then had to suffer through the drab affair at Leith on Sunday, so we’re due a decent showing by the players, akin to the one we got against the 1960 Scottish Champions.

Dundee United a tougher challenge than the 1986 and 2025 runners-up

Tonight’s opponents Dundee United are enjoying a decent run of form under Jim Goodwin, and will arrive at Paradise full of belief and confidence so it won’t be easy by any stretch of the imagination.

But Hearts arrived in the same manner just a couple of weeks ago, and we absolutely obliterated them by performing at the very top of our game, so we should be aiming to apply ourselves in the same dominant manner against the Tannadice outfit.

Alistair Johnston will miss out this evening through injury

Martin O’Neill has almost a full squad to call upon with Alistair Johnston missing out after his latest injury setback, so we should be heading into the game well equipped to get a positive result.

With our main title rivals facing a tough test against Hearts at Tynecastle, we should be targeting all three points in a bid to maintain our four point lead, or fingers crossed extend it further should the Ibrox club slip up in Gorgie.

Hopefully Kasper Hogh gets a goal this evening

For Celtic, it’s all about earning the three points of course, but a dominant and eye catching performance wouldn’t go amiss. It would be nice to see Kasper Hogh getting in amongst the goals again and as Martin O’Neill has said a few times now, all the Dane needs is a goal to kickstart his Celtic career.
