Scott Brown tells Celtic players grievances must stay inside dressing room
Former club captain Scott Brown tells the current crop of Celtic players that any grievances they may have should stay inside the dressing room and should not be aired in public…
Former Celtic skipper Scott Brown has offered a few words of advice to today’s current crop of hoops players, telling them to stop being too ‘open’ with their problems, and confine their grievances to the dressing room.
His words of wisdom come in the wake of Cameron Carter Vickers stating after the 1-0 home loss to the Rangers that he and his teammates were “too random” and that they lacked “consistency of messaging, consistency of ideas”.
A few days earlier Skipper Callum McGregor said of the Europa League home loss to Ferencvaros: “You can see that it’s a little bit broken in how we want to play, it’s a bit nervy and awkward at times.”
Scott Brown, speaking on The Warm up Podcast, had this to say about these kind of remarks that are now slipping out from the current Celtic squad: “Me personally, I never did that. I had a go once years ago and then I thought, ‘I need to rein this in’. There’s a time and a place.
“Now football’s changed because there’s TikTok, Twitter, there’s everything, and everyone can go on and say what they want.
“Then when Callum comes out and says something, they jump on the bandwagon yet again. And the ‘randomness’ and whatever Carter-Vickers was talking about, I don’t know if that’s shape, if that’s the style.
“But I’m not too keen on them always coming out and being too open. We were always told everything stays in-house. The more that you put out there, the more there’s vultures that want to jump on top of it.”
Brown also said that the players have all got to be on the same page and have to guard against being too ‘open’ with the mainstream media.
The Invincible treble winning skipper also spoke of his own experience in keeping a low profile in regard to interviews, something he said was drilled into him and his teammates.
“Celtic have got good players, but they all need to be on the same page. And they need to not be saying everything in the media every two weeks.
“When I played, I gave absolutely nothing (in interviews). I’d always keep it low key, and that’s what we got drilled into us. But now there’s too much (coming out).
“Even when it is negative, it should stay in that dressing room,” Broony said.
If Scott Brown is making these points after the likes of Paul Lambert and Chris Sutton, said broadly similar things, then you can imagine that Martin O’Neill will have been making similar points to the players after the squad got back together following the conclusion of the international break.
All eyes are now on Fir Park on Sunday afternoon and before that we should be hearing from Martin O’Neill and perhaps a player this afternoon as the mainstream media get the chance to set their agenda while the cowardly decision to ban the Celtic Fan Media continues with no end in sight with the club’s stated review being no more than a big fat lie.
