There were plenty of positives to take from Celtic’s 2-0 win at Fir Park yesterday afternoon, none more so than the attitude and performance of the players who showed their desire and hunger to defend their title…

Celtic midfielder Mika Baur was one of those who stood out by putting in a terrific display, and the German was throughly happy with his performance in an overall impressive team display in the 2-0 win over Motherwell that sent the hoops back to the top of the league, looking down on the Rangers.

Baur who made his senior German debut during the international break impressed at Fir Park which had fans raving, and the £6 million summer signing was also satisfied with his performance in a must win game for the Scottish champions.

The 22-year-old who became the 1000th footballer to represent Germany when he made his debut in a recent nations league clash against Serbia said to CelticPlayer after the win over Motherwell : “I’m very, very happy with the performance because it was a very important game today after how we finished the first period before the international break.”

Baur said of his scoring chances: “I had, I think, two in the first half. One or two in the second as well.

“That’s on me to score there, absolutely. But, yeah, I think that will happen in the next game, so again just stay calm and be in the situations, be there to have the situations, have the shots on target, and then hopefully in the next games I will score again.

“The score could be 3-0 or 4-0 maybe at the end. But it’s not always that easy.

“The goalkeeper was really good as well. But it’s a performance to build on, absolutely.

“That’s a good start after the international break. And we have a lot of games now to just keep improving in the coming weeks.”
