Kris Boyd is spot on about Celtic being in 'big trouble' after second Old Firm defeat

Kris Boyd says it was 'men against boys' in the latest Old Firm on Sunday as Celtic lost a second game in two weeks against Rangers.

The Bhoys needed a big response to last week's hammering at Ibrox, and they failed to deliver one, once again appearing flat as they slipped to a third straight defeat across all competitions.

Martin O'Neill made big changes, switching to a five-at-the-back system, but Celtic did not respond with any more bite in front of goal, barely mustering up an opportunity apart from an early disallowed goal.

It's another big game where Celtic have failed to turn up and deliver the right level of intensity to match the occasion.

And speaking after the game, former Rangers striker turned pundit Boyd highlighted that, saying on Sky Sports: "You look at that, and it was men against boys, the same as last week. To come and dominate the Celtic team as much as they did, and it should have been more than what it was. Celtic were lucky to get out of here 1-0.

"I think you look at the changes Martin made at the beginning of the game, and the subs that came on made zero impact as well, and right now, Celtic are a team who are in big, big trouble."

Boyd has a point about Celtic

The truest part of those Boyd comments relate to the changes O'Neill made. As wedetailed in our own account of the game, O'Neill has to be credited for trying to make changes to a failing side, but is always a concern when significant changes are made and there is no real response,

Even when O'Neill brought Kasper Hogh on at half time, there was no response, and Celtic were arguably worse than the first half.

It's clear this team has a mentality problem, but it is perplexing that it applies to almost every player. Other than Cameron Carter-Vickers and perhaps Viljami Sinisalo, everyone seems to be involved in a mental landslide that has seen Celtic fail to shake off the pressure that is currently drowning them.

Players are not responding to O'Neill keeping faith in them, and they are not responding to being dropped. So, what does O'Neill do? Is there an answer, or is it a personnel issue? That's what the Bhoys board will likely look to determine during this international break as they contemplate what to do next.
