Kieran Tierney makes Celtic set-piece admission after Hearts romp
Celtic goalscorer Kieran Tierney says he and his teammates have been working on set-pieces amid newfound success at corners during Sunday's comfortable win over Hearts.
The Hoops beat Hearts 7-1 thanks to goals from Callum Osmand, Benjamin Nygren, Camilo Duran, Tierney, with the first two scoring braces, while Hearts also scored an own goal.
Celtic's first two goals came from corners, and both were a similar routine that looked to rely on a flick-on at the front post.
Speaking after the game, Tierney, who had what was likely his best game of the season, confirmed that Celtic have been working on set-pieces, with the club having appointed a set-piece coach in Ross Grant ahead of this season.
"It was good," he told Sky Sports. "We were very clinical. It was a good performance. I said last week it was just one game, and this is another one.
"We just took our chances. Last week we could have scored three or four more. Today it worked for us and Ozzie (Callum Osmand) scored a couple.
"We worked on set-pieces and they are important these days. It worked for us three times. On Thursday those games are tough, it is difficult away from home against good teams and we got a good start today."
Asked about recent criticism of Celtic, Tierney added: "There's always going to be questions, but we need to block out what people are saying. We've had some meetings and analysis."
Nygren has his say
Elsewhere, Nygren, who scored a brace in the game and looked much better today, replied when asked what he was most pleased about: "That we scored so many goals. It was so fun to play today. We haven 't scored so many goals since i came here. It was extra fun to do it at home and celebrate with the fans.
"We played a good opponent a few days ago, so it was about bringing confidence. We have good players, a good team and we had to show that. It's always very nice to score early. Today, we did it and we created a lot of chances."
The attacking midfielder added: "We know that we have a lot of good players, we showed that today,a nd we have to work every day so that there are more performances like this to come."
Celtic are back in action on Thursday night when they face Celta Vigo in what could be a pretty defining clash in their Europa League campaign.
