Haissem Hassan has escaped Celtic criticism, but we need to see more

Celtic star Haissem Hassan may have gotten off easy this season due to his evident ability and potential.

Hassan arrived on a £6million deal that could be worth up to £9million in the long run, and there was plenty of excitement surrounding his arrival. The winger has excellent for Egypt at the World Cup as they reached the Round of 16 and ultimately fell short to finalists Argentina.

But due to his extended World Cup, he arrived out of match shape and needing more time to catch up with pre-season. Since then, we have seen some bright moments from the winger.

He has pace aplenty and quick feet. He is a skilful player who, when he steps on the gas, looks too good to be playing in the Scottish Premiership.

But Hassan does not like defending, leaving Colby Donovan with a lot to do on the right, and we are yet to see a truly complete performance from the Egyptian despite his obvious ability.

Hassan has provided some good moments here and there, but he has not been a constant threat like he should be, at least in Premiership games.

The winger should have the majority of his opposing full-backs on toast with his ability, but we don't see him creating true danger often enough.

Hassan has had a free ride, and it might be because fans can clearly see that he is a very talented player. That potential is there, whereas we haven't seen it from Kasper Hogh, for example, and it's true that we have seen some good take-ons and crosses from Hassan.

It may also have helped the winger that Sebastian Tounekti has struggled so much on the other side, so when fans see Hassan beat his man, that's almost all they need to see to be convinced.

But when we step back and ask the question: is Hassan doing enough? I don't think the answer is yes.

He has just two assists for the season and no goals to his name. How is that the case with a player this good at this level?

Celtic and Martin O'Neill need to be asking more of Hassan. He should be finding strikers with dangerous crosses, especially with the form Camilo Durán is in, and he should be creating good chances for himself on a regular basis.

He is capable of it, there is absolutely no doubt about it, and it's not easy for a player to change countries, change clubs and style of play. But we are getting far enough into the season that it's fair to ask for more.
