Former Celtic captain believes title would have been lost had Wilfried Nancy stayed
The former Hoops captain has reflected on one of the most turbulent managerial spells in the club’s recent history, which saw Nancy dismissed after only eight matches in charge.
Celtic pulled the plug following a 3-1 defeat to Rangers, with the decision ultimately paving the way for Martin O’Neill to return and steady the ship.
And Brown reckons the Parkhead hierarchy deserve credit for acting quickly, despite getting the initial appointment wrong.
Speaking on The Warm Up, Brown said: “We all know Nancy was a mistake. I thought Celtic done well getting him out that quick if I’m honest. See, if that goes on an extra four, five, six weeks, they don’t win the league.
“Martin comes in and changes the mentality. Fozzy, Shaun start winning games.
“Dundee United I thought, ‘Oh no, that’s it’. I thought it was out of Hearts and Rangers for the league and Rangers looked like they were in the front seat there.
“But the mentality of Celtic… Cal, KT to drive them through, that’s the difference that Celtic have got. They know what it takes to keep winning, to win again.”
