Geissler attended the Scottish Premiership match at Celtic Park as the top two teams from last season went head-to-head for the first time since that dramatic afternoon in May when Celtic snatched the title from the Tynecastle club’s grasp inside the final ten minutes of the 38 match campaign, which Hearts lead almost entirely from start to within ten minutes of the finishing line.

That result broke the Hearts support as we have all watched in recent days in that outstanding fly-on-the-wall documentary which included contributions from many Hearts supporters who were at Dens Park on 4 May 1986 when it was Albert Craig who broke their hearts.

Martin Geissler pulled no punches as he took aim at the Hearts travelling support for their disgraceful behaviour at Celtic Park. Taking to social media, the BBC News presenter and podcaster said:

“Some grim songs coming out of the Hearts support today. I was there, it was excruciating and humiliating.

“A small, small section of our support as a whole but vocal and well represented today.

“Proud to support the club I’ve always loved but get that stuff out. It’s awful.”

Celtic held a pre-match tribute to former Hoops winger Johnny Doyle who died in an accident at his home on this day back in 1981. The Hearts support’s sectarian chanting on this was as vile as anything that we have heard from the Ibrox clubs (plural) support over the years.

Celtic though answered in spectactular style, using a happier anniversary for today, the 1957 League Cup final to match the scoreline from that day to beat Hearts 7-1 that saw most of the Edinburgh bigots head home before the half-time whistle.
