Durán decides it before the break

The winner came in the 43rd minute, when Durán put Celtic ahead. It was his fifth league goal of the season, which puts him third in the Premiership scoring chart, one behind team-mate Nygren, who shares top spot with St Johnstone’s Fowler on 6.

Durán was rated 7.76, the highest on the pitch. He had 4 shots and 1 key pass in his 73 minutes. Elding was close behind on 7.61 for his goal and 2 key passes, while Newell earned 7.22 for Hibernian.

Celtic had 61% of the ball and completed 487 of their 570 passes, against Hibernian’s 270 accurate passes from 357. Yet the hosts edged expected goals, 1.24 to 1.16. Celtic finished with 15 shots to 13 and put 4 on target to Hibernian’s 2. Sallinger made 3 saves in the Hibernian goal.

Hibernian are 12th with 7 points from 10 games. They are a point behind Motherwell and Kilmarnock, who both have 8. M. Reedijk’s side have not won in five matches in all competitions. Their last victory was the 3-0 win over Ross County, and since then they have lost to Kilmarnock, Dundee Utd, Falkirk and now Celtic, with a 1-1 draw against Aberdeen in between.

Midweek fixtures for both sides

There is a quick turnaround for both clubs. M. O’Neill’s Celtic host Dundee Utd in the Premiership on Wednesday 28 October, with the visitors fourth in the table. On the same night, Hibernian travel to St Mirren as they look to get away from the foot of the table.
