There’s been several rumours doing the rounds in regard to Everton manager David Moyes being high on a list of candidates for the Celtic managerial job, a position which will most likely be vacant next summer when Martin O’Neill will almost certainly call it a day.

Moyes current deal with the Toffees expires in the summer, and with the Merseyside club looking likely to be under new ownership, it’s appears to be increasingly unlikely that the former West Ham and Manchester United manager will be extending his stay in the blue half of Liverpool.

It is clear that David Moyes who has done an outstanding job in his second stint with the Toffees, but with new owners pending, it could well be that they want a change in the dugout come the summer.

Now former West Ham scout Mick Brown, who worked closely alongside Moyes at the London Stadium, has told Football Insider that the opportunity to return to Scotland will appeal to him.

“There’s still a lot that has to happen before we can talk about David Moyes leaving Everton,” Brown said. “But if they can’t reach an agreement about a new contract, then he will have to consider his options, and I think the Celtic job could be very appealing for him.

“He would jump at the chance to go back to Scotland, with the club he used to represent as a player, so it would make a lot of sense for all parties.

“From a Celtic point of view, it would be a major coup to land a manager like Moyes, and that’s why I do have doubts about whether he will end up leaving Everton.

“But he’s obviously got family up in Scotland, so that’s always a possibility that he could be tempted to move back there, and as I said, the Celtic job will surely appeal to him.”

While some would welcome Moyes as the next Celtic manager it still seems like it’s relying on the old guard and not looking anything like a progressive move from the club.

Moyes was on a shortlist of two to replace Ronny Deila back in the spring of 2016 but was less keen that Brendan Rodgers who had no hesitation in accepting the offer from Celtic.
