Chris Sutton has questioned Sam Johnstone’s explanation for Celtic’s sloppy passing during Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Hibernian at Easter Road.

Martin O’Neill’s side recovered from an early setback to secure all three points and maintain their four-point advantage at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

However, Celtic’s performance was far from convincing, with Sutton particularly critical of their distribution and struggles in midfield.

The former Hoops striker was unimpressed by Johnstone’s suggestion that the weather contributed to Celtic’s misplaced passes.

Taking to X after the match, Sutton wrote: “Sam Johnstone blaming the weather for sloppy passing is a stretch I think😂😂😂”

Despite acknowledging Celtic’s impressive domestic results, Sutton also raised concerns about the midfield’s inability to control proceedings as the game progressed.

He reserved praise for Camilo Durán’s winning goal but suggested the Colombian appeared uncomfortable operating on the right flank.

In a separate post, Sutton added: “Can’t fault Celtic domestically. Not a great performance but 3 points against Hibs after another European loss.

“Still big concerns over that midfield area and second balls the longer the game went on. Duran class finish but looks unhappy on the right. Gutted for AJ hope he’s ok!”
