Celtic vs Kilmarnock match preview

After kick-starting their European campaign on Thursday night, can Celtic get back to winning ways in the Premiership? In mid-week, having lost their first three Europa League fixtures, it looked like being yet another one of those bleak nights when Beşiktaş went in front; Junior Olaitan's spot-kick saved by Sam Johnstone, only to be on hand to turn home the rebound.

However, within seconds of a triple substitution by Martin O'Neill, Callum Osmand fired the Celts level, before Camilo Durán had them in front. Orkun Kökçü then fired the Black Eagles level, at which point you could hear a pin drop, but there was still time for Durán to slot home a late winner, snatching three precious points.

This was just a fourth win in 11 matches across all competitions for the Hoops, but alleviates some of the mounting pressure on O'Neill's shoulders. Last weekend, Celtic missed the chance to pull clear at the top of the table, beaten 2-0 by Falkirk. This came four days after a very underwhelming 2-2 draw with Dundee United at home, after which the team were booed off.

So, assuming Rangers beat St Mirren in Paisley on Saturday night, the top two will be just one point apart, having played the same number of games. Thus, in short, the Celts cannot afford a slip up here.

As for Kilmarnock, they kick off in the relegation play-off spot, battling for every point they can find. Last weekend, despite being up against ten men for 77 minutes, Neil McCann's team could only draw 2-2 with St Johnstone at home. Goals from Cathal McCarthy and then Djenairo Daniels had them ahead, only to concede a gut-punch of a second half equaliser.

Overall, Killie have won only twice all season, beaten seven times, most-recently defeating Motherwell back on 17 October. Celtic smashed Kilmarnock 5-1 at Rugby Park in August, and a similar scoreline should be on the cards in Glasgow's East End.

Celtic team news

Jordan Lotomba started for the first time since joining the club on Thursday, as Martin O'Neill chose a bizarre starting lineup against Beşiktaş. Camilo Durán and Callum Osmand both scored off the bench, set to start this time, with fit again Jota also hoping to come into attack; he is not in the UEFA squad.

Alistair Johnston and Yang Hyun-jun remain sidelined, while can Kasper Høgh end his goal draught? He has scored three times for Celtic, all of which came during a hat-trick at Kilmarnock in August, looking rather lost since then, so can he get on the scoresheet against them again? Auston Trusty remains unavailable following the passing of his father.

Kilmarnock team news

Max Stryjek and Bailey Rice are injured for Neil McCann, but Michael Schjønning-Larsen and Tyreece John-Jules, both of whom have scored against Celtic at Rugby Park in 2026, could return to the XI.

Predicted Line-ups

Celtic predicted lineup: Johnstone; Donovan, Carter-Vickers, Scales, Tierney; McGregor, Baur, Nygren; Hassan, Osmand, Durán.

Kilmarnock predicted lineup: Mantl; McCarthy, Deas, Stanger; Brandon, Tshibola, Lowery, Ring; Kiltie, Hugill, Schjønning-Larsen.

Score prediction: Celtic 3-0 Kilmarnock.
