Celtic summer signing tipped for January loan move
Joel Van den Berg is being tipped to go out on loan, while it’s also claimed that Anthony Ralston is being ‘treated unfairly’ this season…
Celtic are said to be considering letting summer signing Joel Van den Berg move on loan in a bid to get some much needed game time. The 19-year-old Dutch midfielder, who was signed from PSV Eindhoven in the summer for £3.4 million, is yet to make his competitive debut for the club.
Football insider has reported that Van den Berg is being seen as a future asset by Celtic. However, the club acknowledges that he needs time to adjust to his new surroundings.
The Dutch youth international has failed to make Martin O’Neill’s squad since making the move to Glasgow, although he’s been sidelined recently through an Injury picked up in training.
Van Der Berg is clearly highly regarded at Celtic, but Martin O’Neill and his coaching staff may want the youngster to get some experience under his belt, although that could change should the squad be hit by another injury.
Meanwhile there’s a new claim that Celtic defender Anthony Ralston is being treated unfairly, and doesn’t deserve to be continually forced into the fringes.
27 year old Scotland right-back was a main part of last season’s double winning squad, but has seen his game time limited to just three appearances so far this season.
That is according to former Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking to Football insider who is “very surprised” by the lack of football the right-back has received of late.
“Yes, I’m very surprised. I doubt Celtic said, well, you’re not going to be playing, you’re going to be here just for depth,” he said.
“But it’s another core example of how the board treat the people they love the most. And I mean, the fans as well as the players. It’s a very dysfunctional club at the moment.
“Ralston’s a perfect example of that. And I feel sorry for him. He’s in his prime chance to get one last contract, and he’s hardly had a minute this season.
“He’s a good player, and it just seems strange. He must be disappointed not getting to play in that squad. It’s not as though the whole squad’s performing gangbusters.”
