Celtic star Benjamin Nygren tipped for shock Manchester United transfer

Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren has been tipped for a surprise move to Manchester United, with former Sweden international Anders Limpar convinced he has the quality to succeed in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old has continued to deliver impressive goalscoring numbers since arriving at Parkhead, although his performances have occasionally divided opinion among the Celtic support.

Nygren scored 23 goals last season and has already registered eight this term, establishing himself as a consistent attacking threat despite questions over his overall contribution.

And former Arsenal and Everton winger Limpar believes Premier League clubs should be queuing up to secure his signature, particularly with Manchester United enduring a disastrous campaign.

Michael Carrick’s side have gone seven matches without a victory and sit just one point above the relegation zone following a humiliating 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

That result followed a 4-0 Champions League thrashing against Como, with captain Bruno Fernandes subsequently dropped after publicly questioning Carrick’s tactics.

Amid the growing uncertainty at Old Trafford, Limpar has identified Nygren as a potential bargain for United and several of their Premier League rivals.

Speaking via Daily Record, he said: “Benjamin Nygren is good enough to play in the Premier League, and you can see that he’s still knocking them in for Celtic for fun. It would be stupid for clubs in the Premier League to not buy him this summer.

“Man United at the moment are struggling. Really, really struggling. Liverpool are struggling at the moment. Everton are not struggling, but they need quality forwards like Nygren.

“There are a few clubs he can actually choose from that haven’t got a good winger/forward.

“So, all the Premier League clubs should be looking at this guy, because he’s going to come cheap and he’s a hell of a player.”
