Former Celtic striker Jorge Cadete has admitted he faces a loyalty dilemma ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League clash against Celta Vigo at Parkhead.

The Portuguese forward, who scored 31 goals in 45 appearances for the Hoops, is one of only three players to have represented both clubs during his career.

Cadete remains a popular figure among Celtic supporters but also retains a strong affection for Celta, where he spent two seasons after leaving Glasgow.

Speaking to Spanish outlet Atlantico, the 58-year-old admitted he would struggle to choose between his former sides.

He said via Glasgow Times: “It’s a match where it’s difficult to decide, emotionally, which team you want to win, because I’ve played for both clubs.”

Cadete also reflected on the famous Celtic Park atmosphere, admitting it has changed since his playing days but backing the supporters to recreate some of the magic on another European night.

He continued: “The atmosphere isn’t the same as it was when I played there, but I’m sure that in a European competition match, some of that old atmosphere will be felt once again.

“For the teams and the players, it’s just another match, although it will be highly contested, with both sides pressing hard.”

He added: “I have mixed feelings. I’d be satisfied with a draw, given that I played for both teams and because of the affection I hold for both sets of fans. It would feel like a kind of justice.”
