Celtic described as ‘ticking bomb’ as Nicolson, McKay, Wilson and Martin O’Neill visit Greenock CSC
Celtic supporting footballer and pundit Brian Graham has had his say on the recent goings on at the club and it’s hard to disagree with his assessment on night when Celtic Board and manager visit Greenock CSC…
Journeyman pro Graham, currently with Ross County, speaking on Clyde 1’s Superscoreboard, also defended Martin O’Neill against potential calls for his head, insisting the Celtic boss deserves credit for last season’s title success.
“If it wasn’t for Martin Celtic wouldn’t have won the league last year,” Graham said.
He suggested O’Neill may have been frustrated by the club’s transfer business, adding that supporters are unaware of exactly what has been happening behind the scenes at Lennoxtown.
“As us and as fans, we don’t know what’s going on in the background at Celtic Football Club. Martin might’ve wanted X, Y and Z in the transfer window and didn’t get it. Clearly with a couple of his comments he wasn’t particularly happy with how it ended,” he added.
Graham admitted that Celtic’s European campaign has been a ‘disaster’ and questioned Cameron Carter-Vickers recent absence from the side.
“It’s not been a fantastic start for Celtic in terms of their standards and how they’re playing at the moment but rightly so they’re top of the league. Europe has been a disaster, we have to be honest with that one, so there’s unrest within the camp, it’s clear to see.
“When Carter-Vickers comes out and he doesn’t play the next couple of games which was alarming for me and the so-called ‘injury’. Was there? We don’t know. Then he’s back in, makes a mistake for the goal.
“Celtic on the whole as a club right now is a ticking bomb. They’re ready to just go off and it’s been like that for the last six months, there needs to be some sort of resolve.
“There’s been a lot of fans not happy with the board and that’s been the case for a long time. Something has to give. Surely.”
Last night there were reports that Martin O’Neill, Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson, Finance Director Chris McKay, interim Chairman Brian Wilson all attended a meeting with supporters at the Greenock Celtic supporters Club, who are if memory serves me right, members of the CSA and also the Celtic Fans Collective.
Apparently they took a grilling, blaming Brendan Rodgers for ‘working his ticket’ (the lie frequently pushed on Celtic Board News), Wilfried Nancy was Paul Tisdale’s doing blah, blah, blah…
We’ll try to get more details today. Some early information below…
