Celtic defender Auston Trusty pays heartbreaking tribute following father’s passing

Celtic defender Auston Trusty has paid an emotional tribute to his father following his sad passing.

The American international is set to miss Thursday night’s Europa League clash against Celta Vigo, with assistant manager Shaun Maloney revealing yesterday that the defender was dealing with a “private matter.”

Trusty has since taken to social media to confirm the heartbreaking news, sharing a touching message in memory of his father.

He wrote: “Dad, rest in peace.

“I will miss you every single day. Thank you for being the world’s greatest dad, my role model, and someone I will forever look up to.

“48 years of marriage to Mom, 6 children, and 8 grandchildren – what an incredible life you lived, and what a beautiful legacy you leave behind.

“Thank you for blessing each of our lives every day. I will forever cherish your countless stories, your wisdom, kindness, happiness, and above all, your unconditional love.

“I would never be the person I am today without you, your guidance, and your unwavering dedication to our family. You gave us everything, and I will spend my life trying to make you proud.

“To wear the Trusty name on the back of my shirt will forever be my greatest honor. I couldn’t be prouder to be your son.

“We will miss you more than words could ever express, but your love and legacy will live on through all of us.

“I love you, Dad. Until we meet again”

Celtic have also issued a statement expressing their condolences to Trusty and his family during this difficult time.

The club said: “The thoughts and condolences of everyone at Celtic Football Club are with Auston Trusty and his family following the sad passing of his father.

“YNWA, Auston.”
