Martin O’Neill has given Kasper Hogh a vote of confidence stating that he reckons the Danish striker will score 20 goals for Celtic this season…

Kasper Hogh hasn’t exactly hit the heights expected of him since his record breaking £11 million move from Bodo/Glimt in the summer transfer window. However Martin O’Neill has given the Denmark international his full backing, and even said that he expects the 25 year old to hit the 20 goal mark this season for the Hoops.

The veteran Irishman told Sky Sports: “At the end of the season, I expect Kasper Hogh to score 20 goals.

“He has lost a bit of confidence; we will get that back during the course of time.

“We have game after game after game between now and January, but he will score goals for us; there is no question about it, and it is just a matter of tinkering around, but that’s the nature of the business.”

Some will scoff at Martin’s comments but Kasper Hogh has goals in him, that’s clearly obvious. He proved that time and time again with Bodo Glimt, especially at the top level in the Champions League, scoring against some of the best sides in European football.

Kasper just needs a bit of luck, and he’ll prove his worth, just like he showed at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock when he hit a first half hat trick in a 5-1 win for the Scottish Champions.

Those three goals remain Kasper’s only goals to date for the club, and some supporters are starting to question his signing, but with a long season ahead both domestically and in Europe, Hogh will find the net again – hopefully this afternoon.

Some will claim that Martin is adding yet more pressure on the Danish International, but to me it’s nothing more than a bit of old fashioned mind games by Martin O’Neill.

The Celtic manager has been round the block often enough to know when a player is low on confidence, he has been there himself as a player.

The Irishman is well aware of the ability that Kasper Hogh possess, and he’s doing his best to make sure he utilises it by publicly backing him ahead of today’s match against Hearts where Celtic can open up a four points advantage over the Rangers who dropped points last night in a 2-2 draw against Dundee to miss the point to top the table this morning.
