Cameron Carter-Vickers backs Celtic management despite recent criticism

Cameron Carter-Vickers has insisted the Celtic dressing room remains behind Martin O’Neill despite a deeply disappointing sequence of results. Pressure has mounted on Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney since the defeat to LASK in the UCL before poor results over the last week.

The Scottish Champions enter the new-look international break after suffering three consecutive defeats, including two against Rangers in the space of eight days. Worryingly, Celtic appear to be without a style of play and tactics.

Speaking to STV Sport, Carter-Vickers offered support for the manager and his management team.

“All I can say is as players, we are behind the manager and behind the management team.

“I think what he achieved last year was unbelievable and as a playing group we are grateful to him for that, so we’re still behind him, and we’re going to do our best for him.”

CCV is a senior figure in the squad and will be hurting with the results of late. No doubt he will be eager to return to form as well as his teammates but there could yet be a change in management.

After the game, Martin confirmed he would think about his role. There is no escaping the legacy and stature of MON at Celtic and he should be entitled to decide his future. The reality is that Celtic should never have offered the job to MON on a permanent basis given the fairytale ending. The Celtic hierarchy should have planned for the summer and could have made a role for O’Neill in recognition of all that he has achieved.
