Auston Trusty has been a missed by Celtic, he’ll be a huge asset when he returns
Auston Trusty has been a huge miss these past few weeks, which illustrates his importance to this Celtic side…
Auston Trusty has been absent from the Celtic side these past few weeks due to the American International grieving the loss of this father, with the former Arsenal and Sheffield United man quite rightly taking a leave of absence to come to terms with his devastating loss.
Celtic has missed the towering centre back
It would be safe to say that Celtic has missed the towering centre back in his absence, with our defence looking increasingly vulnerable with every passing game.
Some will scoff at the mere mention of the American being branded a vital figure in our side, but the past few weeks have proved that we’ve badly missed his presence at the back.
Auston Trusty is a solid, reliable centre back, particularly when we’re under the cosh and he has often been outstanding for Celtic in tough away matches in European football.
CCV and Trusty – Celtic’s best central defensive pairing
The 28 year old also being naturally left sided greatly complements Cameron Carter Vickers, and together they form a compact backline and the best pairing available to Martin O’Nell and also the two previous managers.
Auston, who is known more for his defensive ability is also decent on the ball, and in my view is a better option to Liam Scales whose passing and overall distribution has been relatively poor this season.
Scales is a player I highly admire for his terrific spirit and determination, but it’s probably fair to state that the Irish International is more of a squad player, and isn’t the calibre of player we need in the centre of defence on a weekly basis.
Celtic could sign another centre-back in January
In my opinion we are in need of one or two new faces in the central defensive department, but we can only go with what we currently possess at our disposal, and Auston Trusty along with Cameron Carter Vickers are undeniably the two best options.
CCV after his mishap at Falkirk was much more like his old reliable self on Thursday night and when his fellow American is ready to get back to work those two should be the first choice centre backs for Celtic going forward.
Auston Trusty and the Celtic family
Auston is currently experiencing a low point in his life and understanding so after losing his father, but he will be back when ready and when he does return, this Celtic side will be all the better for it.
Celtic is often the subject of criticism from the supporters for a variety of reasons – mostly justified – but credit where it is due, they have handled this sad and sensitive situation brilliantly and I am sure that Auston and his family will all appreciate that greatly.
If he didn’t know before, although I am sure that he did, then he will now fully appreciate what the Celtic family is all about.
