After Colby Donovan, the Celtic contracts that must be addressed

Celtic have agreed a new long-term deal with Colby Donovan in a big boost for the club. The 20-year-old has been excellent in the starting right-back role in the absence of Martin O'Neill, and he has been rewarded with a five-year deal.

The Bhoys have a talent on their hands with the full-back, but who is next in line for a new deal? Here we take a look at the Parkhead contract situation.

Celtic players out of contract in 2027

Only a few Celtic players are out of contract in 2027, and one is Jordan Lotomba, who joined on a short-term deal from Feyenoord at the back end of the summer.

We have seen very little of Lotomba so far, so it would be difficult to argue that he is in need of a new contract, or perhaps more importantly, whether he will get one.

James Forrest is another, and it's likely his time at the club is up as he moves further into the latter years of his career, and the same can likely be said of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has featured sparingly so far this term.

Anthony Ralston is also out of terms, and yet to feature in the league this season, it's unlikely he will make it past January.

Celtic are generally well ahead of their contract business, with few players out of contract this summer.

Celtic contracts up in 2028

In 2028, a decision will need to be made on Callum McGregor, who will likely be done by then, already showing signs of wear against more agile midfields.

Elsewhere in 2028, Luke McCowan is likely to be let go before we get to that point, and it's unclear what the Hoops make of young keeper Ross Doohan. One player they will almost certainly look to tie down soon is young defender Dane Murray, who has done well when called upon. He could be the next contract addressed.

Contract situations Celtic should address ahead of 2029

There are a few key contracts up in 2029, with Auston Trusty, Viljami Sinisalo, Alistair Johnston and Callum Osmand all out of terms that summer.

Of those, Johnston will be the biggest question mark, given he lost much of last season through injury and this one is turning out the same way so far.

In terms of ability, there is no doubt that Celtic will want to keep the Canadian, who attracted Premier League interest during the summer just gone, but injuries are a key factor when it comes to contract decisions. Celtic will need to weigh that up.

Osmand could be next in line for a new deal if he continues his recent performances, which have been excellent out on the left. He has also shown himself to be a goalscorer, and they are not easy to find. At just 20 years of age, Osmand may well be one Celtic look to tie down to a longer-term deal by the end of this season.

Trusty's future could come down to his ambitions, and because he may want to play down South, it's unlikely he will rush into extending that deal, even if Celtic were to pursue an extension.

As for Sinisalo, he has done well this season and looks to be the club's number one for now. The Bhoys are likely to see how the Finland international does in that role over the course of the season before tying him down.
