Kilmarnock vs Livingston predictions: Cagey affair expected at Rugby Park

Four of the last five head-to-heads have gone under 2.5 goals
Livingston only conceded 27 goals in 36 Championship games last season
Recommended bet: Under 2.5 goals
Kilmarnock and Livingston tend to play out on low-scoring affairs when they meet and another could be on the cards in the first game of the new Scottish Premiership season.
Unusually for the first game of the season, these teams have already met this term. The pair faced off in the Scottish League Cup, with Killie running out 1-0 winners.
Now the pair will battle it out in the top-flight-s curtain-raiser.
Livi are back in the Premiership after beating Ross County in the play-offs while Killie will be looking to improve upon their ninth-placed finish from last season, with new boss Stuart Kettlewell having replaced Derek McInnes.

Team news
Kilmarnock have announced that they will be without a couple of players who picked up knocks in training without specifying who. Jack Thomson has returned to training following a long lay-off, but this game comes too soon for him.
Livingston ran out 6-0 winners over Kelty Hearts last time out and may well opt for a similar team on their return to the top-flight, with Robbie Muirhead expected to lead the line.
The stats
At just 18 years of age, Kilmarnock's Ben Brannan impressed in the League Cup group stages, netting three times in three starts.
Killie are yet to concede this season, keeping a clean sheet in all four of their League Cup group matches.
There have been under 2.5 goals in four of Kilmarnock's last five Premiership home games, dating back to the 2024/25 campaign.
The hosts won seven of their 19 home matches last term without conceding.

Prediction
Both Kilmarnock and Livingston have made their reputation on solid foundations recently – Killie are particularly tight at home, while Livi had the best defensive record in the Championship last term.
The pair continued that into the new season as they only conceded two goals in their combined eight Scottish League Cup group stage matches.
One of those was Killie's only goal in the meeting between these two teams and they will take plenty of confidence from that victory.
However, there was very little between the two sides in that game and a safer play than siding with the home win looks to be taking under 2.5 goals.
In the first game of the season, these two teams may be slightly risk averse and a low-scoring affair could ensue.
