Zirkzee contributes to extraordinary Manchester United draw with stoppage-time goal
Manchester United salvaged a point against Aston Villa on Sunday, coming from 4-2 down in stoppage time to draw 4-4. Under-pressure Michael Carrick saw substitute Joshua Zirkzee kick-start the comeback with a goal that cut the deficit. United remain 18th in the Premier League, while Villa are 10th.
At Old Trafford, United made an almost unprecedented horror start, falling 2-0 behind inside four minutes. Alysson made it 0-1 in the second minute, shooting through the legs of Senne Lammens, whose goalkeeping was poor.
Nicolas Jackson compounded United's misery, tapping in after Lammens made a particularly weak save from an Alysson strike.
After those early blows, United refused to give up. Bruno Fernandes pulled one back from the penalty spot as they fought back to draw level before the break.
Youri Tielemans then scored on the stroke of half-time from a cross by Noussair Mazraoui, who had surged forward, giving the home fans more to celebrate.
Almost immediately after the restart, United fell behind again. John McGinn converted a penalty, and shortly afterwards Leon Goretzka scored from Jackson's pass.
Substitute Joshua Zirkzee set up a tense finish in stoppage time, striking Patrick Dorgu's cross in with his left foot.
In the 97th minute, Dorgu capitalised on a goalkeeping blunder to score the equaliser himself: 4-4.
