’Wow’ – Emery delighted with Aston Villa youngster’s progression after shining in win over Viking

Unai Emery praised Alysson’s growing confidence following Aston Villa’s 3-1 win over Viking, but insists the winger still has plenty to learn.

The Villa boss was impressed by the youngster’s performance, describing it as another step forward in his development.

“He’s improving his consistency because he has really good qualities individually but also collectively he must understand consistency – defending, attacking, positioning – understanding combinations with the players,” Emery said.

“Today I think after the match he played against Newcastle, today again was one step forward for him, showing his qualities.”

Emery was particularly impressed by Alysson’s attacking contribution and wants the winger to build on his recent performances.

“When he’s showing those qualities offensively, wow,” he added.

“We must feel confidence, he must feel this confidence to continue improving, helping us and understanding everything tactically.”

Goals from Ross Barkley and Emi Buendia followed by an own goal, created by Alysson, secured Villa victory, making it three wins from three so far in the Champions League.
