World Cup star spells it out: He wants to agree Liverpool deal
One World Cup star has spelled it out clearly. He wants to agree a deal with Liverpool and he wants it to happen ASAP.
Liverpool are in the process of rebuilding their midfield. Or at least, they're at the very start of that process and we expect it to be a dominant feature of their 2027 transfer planning.
We felt the Reds needed to sign someone in 2026, actually, but they decided not to. Instead, they sold Curtis Jones and didn't replace him, leaving the squad quite short on senior quality.
Especially as the likes of Wataru Endo clearly aren't fancied by Andoni Iraola. Liverpool have just a handful of trusted midfielders and they'll need to expand that group next year. More than that, they need to figure out who stays.
It's clear that Trey Nyoni has a bright future. It's also clear that Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch are viewed as the short-term future.
But that asks the same old question...
What is happening with Alexis Mac Allister?
Liverpool decided against giving a new contract to Alexis Mac Allister this year. That’s despite both Szoboszlai and Gravenberch getting deals and the Argentine openly wanting one.
Mac Allister made that clear at the start of the season. Now he’s making it clear again in a new interview with Gastón Edul.
“I still had time or still have time left at this club, which is what I want most, to continue here,” said Mac Allister.
“The reality is that the manager has changed, the sporting director has changed, and new investors are coming into the club. So I think today I am in a position where anything can happen, and well, we will see in the future. I am happy here."
Mac Allister wants to stay with Liverpool. He wants to agree a new contract. Iraola is a massive fan and has come to rely on him - it’s insane at this point that the club isn’t signing anything.
He’s essentially the best player in the team right now, too, meaning the entire situation makes little sense. So given everything here, surely a new deal will be signed.
It would be absolute madness not to at this stage.
