Having finished 17th in the Premier League last season, Tottenham find themselves in a genuine relegation scrap this time around.
In less than a decade, Spurs have gone from challenging for titles and playing in the Champions League final to fighting to preserve their top-flight status.
Should the North London giants go down, it would be the most seismic relegation of the Premier League era.
When Was Tottenham’s Last Relegation?
Tottenham's last relegation wasn’t all that long ago in the grand scheme of things: it came in the 1976/77 campaign.
Under the management of Keith Burkinshaw, Spurs finished 22nd in the old First Division and were relegated to the second tier for the first time in 27 years.
They bounced back the very next season, though, and have played in the top flight ever since, becoming one of the founder members of the Premier League in 1992.
Which Other Clubs Have Been Ever-Present in the Premier League?
Tottenham are one of six clubs to have played in all 33 Premier League seasons and never be relegated. The others are Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton.
Aston Villa were also ever-present until their 2016 relegation, returning three years later, and have played 30 seasons in the competition – as have Newcastle.
The only other clubs to have played 20 or more Premier League campaigns are West Ham (29), Manchester City (28) and Southampton (25).
Arsenal hold the longest active top-flight streak, having not been relegated for 107 years, followed by Everton (72), Liverpool (64) and Man United (51). Chelsea were last promoted to the top flight in 1989.
While Arsenal have spent longer consecutively in the top flight than any other club, Everton take the honour of spending the most campaigns overall at the highest level with 123.
