Video: the title holder was a no-show! Brighton humiliate Arsenal
A heavy defeat raises questions about Arteta's side!
Brighton dismantled Arsenal 3-0 on Saturday, the visitors nowhere near their usual level and badly exposed at the back, in a fifth-round Premier League clash.
Kostoulas and Chima Andres put the hosts in front, and Brighton saw the game out with real conviction. Arsenal trudged off empty-handed, beaten for the first time this season.
Pascal Groß opened the scoring for Brighton in the 31st minute, and Kostoulas doubled the lead with a similar strike from outside the box as the hosts grew in confidence with every passing minute.
Arsenal tried to build through Saka and Ødegaard, but Brighton's organised defence snuffed out most of it. Havertz spurned a clear chance before the break.
Arsenal saw their possession climb to 62% after the interval, yet Brighton posed the greater threat.
Struijk almost made it three with a header from a set piece. Yasin Ayari then sealed it in the 57th minute, compounding the visitors' misery.
The result leaves Arsenal on 12 points in second, while Brighton move up to 10 points and third, provisionally.
