Virgil van Dijk is confident Liverpool will get their reward for hard work behind the scenes this season.

Liverpool have found form under Andoni Iraola to win their last five games in all competitions, including Wednesday night's penalty shootout success against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.

After a summer of transition that saw Iraola replace Arne Slot, alongside the departures of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate, there have been positive signs in recent weeks.

Speaking after the win over Chelsea at Anfield, Van Dijk said he feels the fans are liking what they see from a new-look side.

He said the squad can feel the energy of the supporters and is confident the Reds can enjoy success this season. Liverpool take on Premier League champions Arsenal at Anfield this weekend.

"Yeah, of course. It's a night like this [vs Chelsea] and obviously the other night [against Villarreal]. I think the fans definitely like what they're seeing and, of course, you feel that energy and it's great," the Dutch defender said.

"I've been feeling that energy for quite a while and when you then miss it a little bit, to get it back is obviously very good.

"Results help, massively. We understand that as well. We want to show that for the full 90 minutes - every game, home and away. Obviously it's not the easiest thing to do, but we're trying and nights like this help.

"We put a lot of work in behind the scenes. Hopefully the reward will come soon."
