USMNT Premier League match day 9 recap: Tyler Adams continues to shine for Bournemouth
As the November international window grows closer, the performance os USMNT players in the Premier League grows more important. Mauricio Pochettino's squad has several key figures playing for Premier League clubs, and Pochettino wants those players in good form ahead of two Nations League matches later this month. Let's take a look at how the Americans in the Premier League performed over the weekend on matchday 9.
Chris Richards, Crystal Palace
Nothing seems to be getting easier for Richards and Crystal Palace. In a London derby against Tottenham on Saturday, Palace went down to 10 men in the 13th minute, forcing Richards and company to spend the rest of the game defending. They didn’t do a bad job despite the 2-0 loss. Richards tied for a game-high 15 defensive contributions, while winning four of his five duels, doing his best to keep the game respectable. Once again, it wasn’t enough, as Palace has now lost four of its last six matches across all competitions.
Antonee Robinson, Fulham
On Wednesday, Robinson was on the losing end of a cup match against Richards and Crystal Palace, with both Robinson and Richards playing all 90 minutes. On Saturday, Robinson played all 90 minutes again, helping Fulham secure a 1-1 draw with Aston Villa. The USMNT left-back had one shot on target and had one brilliant cross that should have been put away for a goal. The goal contributions haven’t come yet for Robinson, but he’s been a steady performer for Fulham all season.
Tyler Adams, Bournemouth
There was a USMNT battle between Adams and Bournemouth, who faced Brendon Aaronson and Leeds on Saturday. Adams got the upper hand, with the Cherries winning 2-0, and the new USMNT captain putting in another solid 90-minute shift. In addition to getting off one long-range shot that went wide, Adams had 10 defensive contributions and ran a total of 7.7 miles, the most of any player. The only downside is that Adams picked up another yellow card, his fourth in seven matches since the last international break. He now has three bookings in the Premier League, putting him close to a suspension early in the season.
Brenden Aaronson, Leeds United
While the day belonged to Adams and Bournemouth, Aaronson had to settle for a cameo off the bench. He didn’t enter the game until the 84th minute, although it was just a 1-0 game at the time. In that limited playing time, Aaronson got just seven touches. He’s played just 90 total minutes since that last international break, giving him slim odds of being part of the USMNT squad later this month.
Haji Wright, Coventry City
Wright still isn’t back from injury, but he’s on the road back. He’s progressed to light, individual work following the quad injury he suffered before the season. Wright obviously won’t join the USMNT for the upcoming window, but barring a setback, he should return to the Coventry lineup at some point in November.
