Trey Nyoni has said summer signing Ronald Araujo has 'inspired everyone to fight' at Liverpool this season.

Araujo has made an immediate impact since arriving from Barcelona on a season-long loan deal in the summer. The Uruguay international has helped solve a problem position at right-back and has endeared himself to the Liverpool fans with a series of committed performances.

The 27-year-old was outstanding during Liverpool's 2-0 win over Brighton in the Premier League at the weekend, making a number of brave blocks and robust challenges.

Liverpool have the option to sign Arauajo permanently for around £47m in the summer, and Nyoni outlined the impact the defender has made.

He said the former Barcelona captain has become an instant leader in the Liverpool dressing room, with his performances setting an example.

"I think Ronald has kind of inspired everyone to fight. Coming from where he was, he was a captain, so that in itself already shows how much of a leader he is," Nyoni told liverpoolfc.com.

"And I think even though obviously at the minute he doesn’t speak much English, on the pitch you can see that he’s willing to fight and willing to give everything. When you see a player like that, I think it helps everyone else understand what it means to even just play here.

"So, I think it is important to have someone like him who’s got a lot of experience and can help everyone else."

Nyoni has made nine appearances this season and is trying to break into Andoni Iraola's side on a regular basis this season. The 19-year-old praised Liverpool's leadership group for their support.

"A lot of the senior players here have been really, really good. They help us a lot. They create a good environment for us as well. I think obviously as young players, you want players, especially senior players, that are professional and do the right thing.

"All of them are that. I look at Virgil [van Dijk], Ali [Alisson Becker], who have won a lot at this club and know what it actually means to play here. Those two for sure help us a lot, especially on the pitch with communication and everything they do."
