Tottenham forwards are leading to an unthinkable Brennan Johnson conclusion

When Tottenham Hotspur sold Brennan Johnson for a record 35 million pounds, there were very few Spurs fans who regretted the move. Johnson was horrendous in the 2025/26 season, and even though he was scoring goals in the 2024/25 campaign en route to the Europa League title, his all around play clearly was not good enough. And once Spurs signed Mohammed Kudus and got a look at how good was, Johnson felt expendable.

Even though Johnson didn't get on at Crystal Palace and was swapped to Everton, where he has been a relative nonfactor as well, despite the Eagles winning a European trophy, Spurs are starting to realize that for all his warts, maybe Johnson wasn't so bad compared to what they are dealing with now.

Tottenham Hotspur can't buy a goal. Their chance creation has been solid overall, and while they could do a better job of creating clear cut chances, especially when James Maddison isn't available, the biggest problem, by far, with Spurs is the forwards and their inability to score. Outside of Mathys Tel, there is no real goal threat in this team, and the leading scorer for Spurs heading into the November international break - and the only player with more than one goal - is center back Jan Paul van Hecke.

At least Brennan Johnson could score

Brennan Johnson could not defend, carry the ball, or pass, but he could score. He scored 11 Premier League goals in 2024/25 and 5 goals in the Europa League, including the winner in the Final against Manchester United, and at this rate, it would be a miracle if any of Spurs attacking players scored more than 11 goals this season despite having a way better team around them than Johnson did in 2024/25.

Look, nobody is regretting selling Johnson at this point, but after spending nearly 150 million pounds combined on Omar Marmoush and Savio for the attack from Manchester City and a big fee on Mohammed Kudus the year before, Spurs would have expected to get more goals out of their front line. And for Johnson to have been their best scorer of the last three years in the Premier League is a huge embarrassment.

And really, the reason why Johnson is a topic and someone to look on fondly for the goals and nothing else is the irony that Spurs have players who can do literally everything else but score. Marmoush and Kudus are dangerous, Savio even moreso, yet they cannot hit a barn door. It is a disgrace.
