Jurriën Timber played a key role for Arsenal on Tuesday, scoring a fine goal in their comfortable 3-0 Champions League win over Lille OSC. Manchester United fared worse, losing 2-0 away to Atlético Madrid as their Premier League struggles continued. Matthijs de Ligt remained on the visitors' bench for the full 90 minutes.

Atlético Madrid 2-0 Manchester United Within the opening minute, Alex Baena set up Pablo Barrios to score and give Manchester United a nightmare start in Madrid. The visitors recovered somewhat. Bryan Mbeumo fired just wide after 12 minutes, and an alert Jan Oblak denied him later.

Manchester United caught a break when Alejandro Grimaldo hit the post. Just before half-time, Johnny Cardoso had a goal ruled out for offside that would have made it 2-0.

A few minutes after the break, Julián Álvarez struck the post. Bruno Fernandes then went close to equalising at the other end, rattling the bar with a powerful shot. Joshua Zirkzee, Mason Mount and Amad Diallo came on in the closing stages as Manchester United chased an equaliser. Their task grew harder when Leny Yoro saw a straight red card for bringing down an opponent who was through on goal.

Ademola Lookman scored from the rebound after a swift Atlético Madrid counter-attack, ending Manchester United's resistance. The defeat added to Michael Carrick's disappointing start to the season as manager of the English giants.

Arsenal 3-0 Lille OSC After 20 minutes, Bruno Guimarães fired just wide, and Lille goalkeeper Berke Özer denied Mikel Merino. A few minutes later, Ayase Ueda had a goal ruled out for offside. Eberechi Eze also went close to putting Arsenal 1-0 up, but the first half ended goalless.

Arsenal appealed for a penalty after Bruno Guimarães went to ground following the restart, but referee Felix Zwayer turned them down after a VAR check. Timber then beat Özer with a close-range lob to put Arsenal 1-0 up. Eze made it 2-0 shortly afterwards.

To complete the scoring, Bukayo Saka made it 3-0 for the Londoners. Arsenal have six points from two group matches, having won 0-1 against Napoli last month.
