Ian Wright knows how difficult it is for Arsenal to win at Anfield, where Mikel Arteta’s side are set to face Liverpool in the Premier League this weekend.

The Gunners have made significant progress in recent seasons, but winning at Anfield remains a challenge. They did not need to secure a victory there to become champions last season, but the situation is different this time, with the title race already looking extremely competitive.

Arsenal know that dropping points against Liverpool could allow Manchester City to move ahead of them again. Enzo Maresca’s side have been performing exceptionally well, meaning the Gunners must continue matching their results if they are serious about retaining their crown.

Liverpool are also enjoying a good run of form, making the upcoming fixture a difficult test for Arteta’s men. Wright recognises the challenge and is not entirely confident that Arsenal will come away with all three points.

Wright shares his prediction for Anfield

Despite his reservations, the Arsenal legend believes his former club can produce a strong performance and compete with Liverpool. He expects a closely fought encounter, while suggesting the match could also reveal whether Liverpool are ready to re-establish themselves as title contenders.

Speaking on The Overlap, Wright shared his thoughts on the game and explained why he believes Arsenal can get a positive result.

“I think we beat them. This is the game that kind of defines Liverpool if they are coming back. You are looking at Mac Allister, even Gakpo [to step up]. I think we will get a draw out of this game… but deep down, I would have went 2-1. I really think we beat them.”

Arsenal face an important test

The fixture could have significant consequences for Arsenal’s position in the title race. With City maintaining the pressure, Arteta’s players cannot afford to lose ground if they want to remain in contention.

Anfield has proved a difficult destination for the Gunners, but their progress in recent seasons gives them reason to approach the contest with confidence. Wright believes they have what it takes to rise to the occasion, although Liverpool’s current form means the visitors will need a strong performance.

The result could prove important for both teams as they look to strengthen their position in the Premier League this season.
