“That’s why” Rio Ferdinand says Arsenal star proved why they signed him
Ezri Konsa has made an impressive start to life at Arsenal following his summer move from Aston Villa. The defender has performed well in his appearances for the Gunners this season, giving the club reason to believe they made the right decision by bringing him to the Emirates.
As with any major signing, however, some supporters have questioned whether Arsenal were right to spend so much on the Europa League winner. Not every player wins over an entire fanbase immediately, and Konsa still has his doubters despite his encouraging performances.
Konsa proves his worth for Arsenal
Konsa’s display against Nottingham Forest at the weekend provided another example of the qualities he brings to the team. His crucial late tackle helped Arsenal protect their result, demonstrating the defensive reliability that can make a difference in tight matches.
The defender has shown consistency since arriving at the club, and moments like that can help silence critics who remain unconvinced by the signing. Arsenal need players who can deliver under pressure, particularly when opponents are pushing for a late equaliser.
Although questions may remain about the transfer fee, Konsa’s performances have given the Gunners plenty of encouragement. His ability to make important interventions at decisive moments highlights why the club invested in him during the summer.
Ferdinand praises Konsa’s contribution
Rio Ferdinand watched Arsenal’s match against Nottingham Forest and believes the defender demonstrated exactly why the club signed him. Speaking via the Metro, the former defender praised Konsa’s crucial contribution and suggested his performance deserved recognition.
He said:
‘I saw Declan make a block near the end as well. The block Konsa made at the end of the game, oh my god that’s a matchwinner. He deserves a bump up in wages just for that alone.
‘Huge, huge moments. I see people try to hammer Konsa and say why have we bought Konsa? That’s why, because he’s consistent and he’s solid.’
Konsa will hope to maintain his strong form as Arsenal continue their campaign. If he keeps producing performances of this standard, he could further strengthen his reputation among supporters and justify the club’s investment.
