Ten-man Brighton beat Sunderland to continue impressive start
Brighton held on for an impressive 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light despite playing the final half-hour with ten men.
The visitors had the first big chance when Diego Gómez capitalised on a Kevin Danso mistake, but Robin Roefs saved well.
Sunderland threatened through Thomas Meunier before half-time, only for Ferdi Kadioglu to make an important block.
Brighton took the lead early in the second half when Pascal Groß’s cross found Maxim De Cuyper, who beat Roefs at his near post.
The Seagulls were then reduced to ten men after VAR recommended a red card for Pascal Struijk for denying Wilson Isidor a goalscoring opportunity.
Sunderland pushed for an equaliser but struggled to create clear chances, and Brighton sealed the win deep into stoppage time when Georginio Rutter played in Jaouen Hadjam to score on the counter.
