Crysencio Summerville’s stock continues to rise at the 2026 World Cup – and his fine form isn’t going unnoticed.
The Netherlands winger is enjoying a tournament to remember, having registered a pair of goals and an assist in just two matches since heading stateside.
Those showings have piqued the interest of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain all reportedly keen on the West Ham United star.
As the race for Summerville’s signature hots up, we consider why the Irons’ £50 million-rated man is in such high demand.
Rapid rise with the Oranje
Summerville is an established name for followers of English football, having featured regularly for Leeds United and West Ham United since arriving at Elland Road in 2020.
But international recognition with the Netherlands is a far more recent development, with the 24-year-old only making his senior debut in a pre-tournament friendly against Algeria earlier this month.
That was followed by a first start in the warm-up match versus Uzbekistan, when Summerville offered a glimpse of the impact he could have for Ronald Koeman’s side – chipping in with an assist during a 2-1 triumph in New York.
But it was when the World Cup kicked off that we really began seeing the Oranje’s No.24 at his best.
His pinpoint low drive from the edge of the box against Japan proved to be a crucial maiden goal, helping the Netherlands claim a 2-2 draw despite leaking a late equaliser.
And the Rotterdam native’s impact was even more pronounced in the 5-1 romp against Sweden, setting up Cody Gakpo’s second of the afternoon before rounding off proceedings with another low long-range strike.
Only Lionel Messi (3.42) has a greater number of goal contributions per 90 minutes than Summerville (2.37) at the time of writing, highlighting just how impressive he has been across his first two World Cup matches.
That ability to perform on the biggest stage will undoubtedly appeal to any potential suitors.
Contributing in all areas
Despite Summerville’s international heroics, few clubs still recruit players solely off the back of strong showings at major tournaments.
Fortunately, the West Ham United forward also enjoyed a commendable season in East London, despite his team’s eventual relegation from the Premier League.
The Irons were a poor team in 2025/26, yet Summerville still delivered five league goals and two assists across the campaign, alongside an additional trio of goal contributions (two goals and an assist) in just three FA Cup appearances.
He was a menace down the left flank for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side – ranking inside the division’s top ten players for both take-ons attempted (105) and completed (51), such was his willingness to run at opposition rearguards.
But there is another side to the four-cap international’s game, too. If we look exclusively at wingers and wide midfielders in England’s top tier, it becomes apparent that Summerville also has particularly strong defensive attributes.
Though this is somewhat influenced by the pressure exerted on West Ham’s defence and their tactical style, it’s nonetheless notable that he made a high volume of tackles (45), interceptions (16), completed clearances (30) and possession regains in the defensive third (53), relative to his position.
A wanted man
Summerville’s suitors are sure to be aware of his wide-ranging skill set.
They will also have noted his tally of 20 goals and nine assists in the Championship with Leeds United during 2023/24, suggesting he has the potential to produce a greater output in a more dominant side.
It feels unlikely that the 5ft 9in forward is keen on another stint in England’s second tier, while a significant transfer fee would represent a welcome boost to West Ham United’s coffers as they prepare for a sizeable drop in income next season.
There is a deal to be done, then, that should benefit all parties – and a rumoured £50 million asking price certainly isn’t outrageous for a proven Premier League performer.
A move to Arsenal feels particularly plausible, as the Gunners reportedly look to add to their current left wing options of Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard.
But Manchester United are equally in need of reinforcements on the left flank, with Patrick Dorgu the only player in their squad naturally suited to that position.
Any interested parties may need to act fast, though, with the list of clubs keen on Summerville growing by the day.
Paris Saint-Germain are the most recent outfit to be linked, while Aston Villa and Tottenham could also make an approach.
And if the Oranje star continues to hit new heights in the United States, Mexico and Canada, don’t rule out even more clubs joining the clamour for his services before the summer is out.
