Manchester United are undergoing their preparations for Saturday’s trip to Stamford Bridge.

The Red Devils enter the clash in 16th, whereas Chelsea sit fifth-placed after losing 2-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur last time out.

United team news for Chelsea encounter

Michael Carrick will remain in charge for the fixture, despite the general expectation being that he would be relieved of his duties following last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

He has held clear-the-air talks with Bruno Fernandes in the aftermath of his outburst and subsequent omission, so the captain will be reinstated in London.

Sky Sports reporter Danyal Khan has shared an update from Carrington this morning, confirming that Kobbie Mainoo has returned to training, having missed the last four matches through injury.

Elsewhere, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford remain sidelined, the latter of whom is managing a hip problem, as well as pain in his thigh.

Youngsters Amir Ibragimov, Jim Thwaites and Jariyah Shah were drafted into the session with the senior squad.

Who’s out for Chelsea?

Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso is navigating a seismic injury blow in the form of Joao Pedro being ruled out for the coming weeks.

He is Chelsea’s highest goalscorer this season with five goals and three assists to his name in six Premier League appearances.

The two games that he has been absent from, against Brentford and Spurs, were both losses.

Skipper Reece James and young forward Jamie Gittens are also recovering from their own respective setbacks.
