Benjamin Sesko is not expected to feature for Manchester United again until the beginning of 2027, per numerous reports.

The striker has been out of action since before the September international break, with his most recent appearance coming against Brighton and Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup on September 16.

Benjamin Sesko: The state of play

Alas, Sesko has now missed six games across the Premier League and Champions League, which is far from ideal in a United side that is crying out for goals.

He opened his account in the league and Europe prior to his setback, scoring against Sabah and Everton before suffering a re-aggravation of a previous injury, one that ended his maiden campaign prematurely.

Last term, he returned 12 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions, so you can understand why fans are now sweating over how the attack will fare in the coming months.

Samuel Luckhurst said of the 23-year-old: “His goals banked 14 points last season. Club can’t go into next season without a support striker (Joshua Zirkzee does not qualify as one and his best games came as a 10).”

When Sesko is set to return

Reports had suggested in recent weeks that United were deliberating whether surgery would be required to correct Sesko’s problem, but they have now decided that a lengthy ‘period of rest’ will suffice, hence setting a new timeframe of January.

While several dates have yet to be decided, United’s schedule for the opening month of the new year is already looking jam-packed.

They take on Brighton, Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Liverpool in the league, as well as Bayern Munich and Villarreal in the UCL.
