Paul Scholes has said Declan Rice can be unplayable if he makes changes to his game and compared the Arsenal midfielder's running power to Steven Gerrard.

Rice produced a man-of-the-match performance during Arsenal's 1-0 win at Liverpool on Sunday, with the 27-year-old instrumental in the decisive goal.

Rice's made a powerful overlapping run before assisting Kai Havertz's winner at Anfield, recording his fifth assist of the Premier League campaign. No player has assisted more goals so far this season.

Scholes was impressed with Rice's overall performance and believes the England midfielder can get even better if he simplifies his game.

The former Manchester United midfielder called on Rice to reduce his touches and use his athleticism to break teams open.

Speaking on The Good, The Bad, and The Football podcast, Scholes said Rice shares similarities with former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

“You’ll never stay with him”: Scholes urges Rice to simplify his game and unleash his running power

"What he did yesterday when he powered forward, you can't stay with that. And you see the physique, it's probably a little bit Steven Gerrard-like his physique. Both big, powerful, strong lads," Scholes said.

"If he decides to just play one and two touch and run, he'll be virtually unplayable. Almost in a Steven Gerrard type of way. I loved his goal at Bayern Munich a couple of weeks ago. That is brilliant, that's what he should be doing more of.

"You'll never stay with him, you'll never be able to live with him, and he's started to do that a little bit more. I thought it was a brilliant run yesterday and a great pass for the goal as well."
