Barcelona beat Aston Villa 3-0 at Spotify Camp Nou, handing the English side their first loss of the league phase. The win lifts Barça into a tie for second, but a fitness question over Rodri follows them into Sunday's trip to Atlético.

Barcelona ended Aston Villa’s perfect Champions League start on Tuesday 3 November 2026. Hansi Flick’s side won 3-0 at Spotify Camp Nou. Lamine Yamal struck early and Raphinha scored twice after the break.

The night began in mourning. Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel died following a collision on the field on Monday. All domestic games were called off on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The Champions League anthem was not played at Camp Nou. A minute’s silence was held instead.

Yamal needed only seven minutes to open the scoring. The goal put him ahead of every other under-20 scorer in the competition’s history. It was also the first time Villa had fallen behind in this season’s Champions League, according to the club’s own match report. Barça led 1-0 at half-time.

Ian Maatsen, Emiliano Buendía and Nicolas Jackson were all booked before the break. Raphinha was shown a yellow card for arguing in the 45th minute.

Raphinha draws level with Lewandowski on goals for Barça

Raphinha settled the game in the second half. Fermín López set him up in the 52nd minute. João Cancelo supplied the assist for his second in the 64th. It was Raphinha’s seventh two-goal game in the Champions League. His tally of Champions League goals for Barça now matches Robert Lewandowski’s. After the game he paid tribute to De Miguel and said it was not a day to talk about football.

Raphinha earned the top rating of 8.81 in 70 minutes. Yamal and Raphinha have now scored 32 of Barça’s 60 goals this season, in only 15 matches.

The numbers backed up the scoreline. Barça had 65% of the ball and 8 shots on target to Villa’s 1. Expected goals finished 2.05 to 0.77. At the other end, Villa goalkeeper Z. Suzuki was kept busy with five saves. Joan García needed only one to keep a clean sheet.

The result extends a recovery after defeats to Paris Saint Germain and Real Madrid. Barça followed the 1-2 loss in the Clásico with a 6-1 win over Alaves.

Rodri faces tests before Sunday’s trip to Atlético

Barça now sit in a crowded group tied for second in the league-phase table. Villa share that spot after their defeat. PSG lead the standings.

The concern is Rodri. He will have medical tests on Wednesday to find out how serious the discomfort he felt against Villa is, beIN SPORTS reported. The timing matters for Flick. Barça visit Atlético Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Sunday, 8 November, in LaLiga Matchday 12. Kickoff is at 21:00 Barcelona time. Villa travel to Manchester United in the Premier League the same day.

Barça’s next Champions League game is Matchday 5 against Sabah at the Baku Olympic Stadium on Wednesday, 25 November, at 18:45.
