Manchester City suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season last weekend, losing 2-1 to Aston Villa despite their seven shots on target to Villa's two. Erling Haaland found the net, but defensive mistakes proved costly for Enzo Maresca's side. It was a sharp contrast to City's opening seven league matches, all of which ended in victory, and the hosts will be determined to respond immediately.

City needed penalties to eliminate Brighton from the Carabao Cup on Wednesday after a thrilling 2-2 draw. Despite losing the shootout 4-3, Brighton outshot City 17-13 and generated 2.03 expected goals (xG) compared to City's 0.76. Now, the Seagulls seek revenge in the league.
