Premier League Team of the Week: Rodri, Watkins and Gibbs-White Among Star Performers

The latest round of Premier League action saw twists and turns at both ends of the table, with numerous eye-catching individual displays.

Bernd Leno (Fulham)

Leno was in heroic form to help secure Fulham a 0-0 draw away to West London rivals Brentford, making four saves.

The German saved his best stop until the 90^th minute, improbably denying Dango Ouattara from close range to keep out what looked like a certain winner.

Curtis Jones (Liverpool)

Deployed at right-back amid Liverpool’s ongoing injury troubles in that department, Jones shone as the Reds won the first Merseyside derby at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The 25-year-old was produced a well-rounded performance, completing 79 out of 84 passes and winning six out of 11 ground duels.

Abdukodir Khusanov (Manchester City)

Starring in Man City’s potential decisive victory over title rivals Arsenal, Khusanov was key to his side’s regaining of the possession with which they ultimately did the damage.

The Uzbekistan international made four interceptions and recovered the ball four times, as well as finding a teammate with 39 of his 42 passes.

Ayden Heaven (Manchester United)

Nineteen-year-old Heaven is steadily making a name for himself at Man United, and he was in great nick en route to a 1-0 win at Chelsea.

Completing 90 minutes for the first time since January, the United academy graduate won four duels out of six, also making four blocks and four clearances.

Adrien Truffert (Bournemouth)

Truffert’s late winner against Newcastle was his first goal for Bournemouth, and it capped a great all-round performance from the Frenchman.

Key to the Cherries’ side threat at St. James’ Park, the left-back secured all three points when he reacted quickest to the loose ball following Evanilson’s knockdown inside the box.

Rodri (Manchester City)

Rodri was forced off injured shortly before full-time, but the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder was as important as ever to the Man City cause against Arsenal.

Covering most of the pitch at the Etihad Stadium, the Spaniard was accurate with 69 passes out of 74 and won nine duels out of 12 – including three out of three on the ground.

Kaoru Mitoma (Brighton)

Coming on midway through the first half to replace the injured Diego Gomez, Mitoma scored the goal of the game in Brighton’s dramatic 2-2 draw at Tottenham.

The Japan star guided a stunning volley past Antonin Kinsky to put the Seagulls level just before the break – and on top of that, he finished the game with 100% passing accuracy.

Morgan Rogers (Aston Villa)

Undoubtedly one of Villa’s standout players, Rogers moved to nine Premier League goals for the season with his side’s third in their thrilling 4-3 triumph over Sunderland, meeting Ollie Watkins’ flick-on inside the first minute of the second half.

The England international enjoyed a combative afternoon at Villa Park, winning four ground duels out of five.

Noah Okafor (Leeds)

Leeds’ two-goal hero on their way to victory at Man United last Monday, Okafor was it again as the Whites moved closer to safety by comfortably dispatching Wolves.

The Switzerland forward set up James Justin’s opener before finding the net himself just two minutes later, assisting and scoring in the same game for the first time as a Leeds player.

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa)

Left out of Thomas Tuchel’s last England squad, Watkins has timed his form to perfection as he sets his sights on a seat on the plane to the World Cup – and he was involved in three of Villa’s four goals against Sunderland.

It’s now seven goals and two assists in eight games for the 30-year-old, who headed in Villa’s first two at Villa Park and set up Rogers for the third.

Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest)

Forest boosted their survival hopes with a 4-1 thrashing of Burnley, and it was thanks largely to captain Gibbs-White – who hit his first career hat-trick.

The 26-year-old moved to 12 Premier League goals this campaign – making him the joint top-scoring Englishman in the division – with the pick of his efforts on the day a superbly directed header from around 12 yards out to make it 3-1 at the City Ground.
