Premier League refs hit a new low in Tottenham vs. Leeds

Tottenham Hotspur fans have felt there has been a conspiracy against them by the Premier League officiating crew over the past couple of years, especially last season when many calls were going against them and pundits in the media were openly cheering for the club's demise and relegation to the second division.

And the calls have been unrelentingly terrible this season, too. There was Luke Shaw getting away with a red card for instigating an incident that got Rodrigo Bentancur sent off after the left back milked the retaliation by acting as if Bentancur's "headbutt" had been as egregious as Zinedine Zidane on Marco Materazzi.

Then a couple of weeks later, Cole Palmer got away with a blatant red card with a clear hit that even the refereeing comittee admitted was a mistake weeks after a fact.

Leeds should have gotten a red card in the first half

And now, there was a new low at Elland Road around 37 minutes into the match when Jayden Bogle put his studs on the Achilles of Mathys Tel after the Frenchman had him turned. The referee John Brooks, who has been criticized incessantly for his poor refereeing over the past couple of years, and the VAR team spent four minutes wasting everyone's time watching an incident that should have been obvious to see, and after needing so much time to review it, they did not even give a yellow card.

It was a blatantly dangerous tackle, and it was so bad, in fact, that not but five minutes player, Mathys Tel had to leave the game injured for Dominic Solanke.

In literally any other league in the world, that would have been a red card. Fans have seen that play given a red card time and time again, and even Xavi Simons got a red for a similar, less egregious tackle a season ago because the ref deemed it was a high studs up tackle above the ankle.

How John Brooks and the VAR team did not give a red for this is an egregious example of refereeing malpractice. They had a clear view of the incident, saw it over and over again, and decided not to even give a yellow card for a clear red card offense that literally injured the player. Tottenham Hotspur fans have every right to feel aggrieved at another blatant decision gone against them that was game changing, but, unfortunately, it's not as if the incompetent Premier League referees will be held accountable or that any justice will be served for the injured Tel. What an awful league with the same problems that never get resolved by a group of officials that act like a cartel.
