Nuno Espirito Santo's West Ham are in desperate need of points, having fallen five points adrift of safety
  • West Ham have been victorious in six of their last seven home games against Fulham

  • Fulham have been defeated on five of their last seven Premier League road trips

  • Recommended bet: West Ham to win

West Ham have been a Premier League club for 14 successive seasons but they are five points adrift of safety and at obvious risk as they prepare to take on Fulham at the London Stadium.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have gone six games without a victory although they have shown some positive signs in draws at Bournemouth (2-2), Manchester United (1-1) and Brighton (1-1) which have shown their capability to compete at a fairly high level.

Improving their home record will be a high priority for the Hammers, who twice hit the front against Aston Villa before succumbing to a 3-2 defeat.

And they have what looks like a winnable fixture against Fulham, who have amassed just seven points from eight away league games.

The Cottagers have struggled for consistency but they triumphed 1-0 at home to Nottingham Forest on Monday and have established a 10-point gap to the relegation zone.

Team news

Aaron Wan-Bissaka and El Hadji Malick Diouf are on international duty so Kyle Walker-Peters and Oliver Scarles may continue to deputise in the full back positions for West Ham.

Niclas Fullkrug (unspecified injury) and Lukasz Fabianski (back) missed the Manchester City match with minor issues but will be assessed with a view to returning to the squad.

Fulham continue to make do without Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze, who are at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sasa Lukic shrugged off a minor groin strain to feature against Nottingham Forest and Harry Wilson took a knock in the same game and will need to be assessed.

Ryan Sessegnon and Rodrigo Muniz (both thigh) remain unavailable.

The stats

West Ham have scored three goals in five of their last seven home fixtures against Fulham.

Both teams have scored in seven of West Ham’s last nine matches.

Seven of West Ham’s last nine home fixtures have generated at least three goals.

Fulham have conceded the first goal in four of their last six away fixtures.

The Cottagers have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 20 away matches.

Prediction

West Ham had a really tough run of fixtures in the run up to Christmas but their upcoming schedule looks a lot more promising and it can start with a victory over Fulham in what looks like an important clash for both teams.

The winter transfer window will be key to West Ham’s survival hopes but there is a pressing need for Nuno’s side to increase their points tally before the end of 2025.

The Hammers registered home wins over Newcastle (3-1) and Burnley (3-2) towards the start of November and they look capable of defeating a Fulham side which has generally struggled on the road.

Marco Silva’s men have lost three of their five December fixtures and could be edged aside in a fiercely-contested derby which may mean a little more to the hosts.
