Nottingham Forest host Aston Villa at the City Ground on Sunday in a match that will impact the top and bottom of the Premier League table.

While the Villans will be eager to tighten their grip on fourth place and secure a spot in the Champions League, Forest are only three points above the drop zone and have work to do if they are to avoid relegation.

The teams meet having both been in Europa League quarter-final action on Thursday.

Team news

Chris Wood is set to make his first Premier League appearance for Nottingham Forest since October having been sidelined with a knee injury. The New Zealand striker played 45 minutes against Porto and is expected to lead the line again.

Jair Cunha’s foot problem will be assessed but Wily Boly, Nicolo Savona and John Victor are all out for the home side.

Aston Villa midfielder Boubacar Kamara is out for the season due to a knee injury while winger Jadon Sancho is set to be unavailable until the end of April with a shoulder issue.

The stats

Nottingham Forest have won just one of their previous 10 home games across all competitions, going 0-6 since late January.

Aston Villa are the lowest scorers in the current top seven of the Premier League having netted 42 goals in 31 games.

Nottingham Forest have lost just once in six games across all competitions, taking five points from a possible nine in the league.

Aston Villa are looking to do the double over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League for the first time since the inaugural 1992/93 campaign.

Villa have not won at the City Ground since Forest returned to the top flight (D1, L2).

Prediction

Nottingham Forest are unbeaten in four matches across the Premier League and Europa League and will be hoping to extend that run when they face Aston Villa.

While the Tricky Trees haven’t won at the City Ground in over two months, they have earned draws with Crystal Palace, Wolves and Fulham and every point counts as they bid to beat the drop to the Championship.

Vitor Pereira’s men will take confidence from holding Porto in the Europa League while they came out on top in the massive six-pointer against relegation rivals Tottenham before the international break.

Forest also twice came from behind to draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last month and so they know they are capable of hurting teams at the top end of the table.

Visitors Villa have won four of their last five matches but, like Forest, come into this game on the back of a European trip as they beat Bologna 3-1 in Italy.

With both teams tired but in need of the points, backing a draw at the City Ground may prove a smart move.

Forest have scored in six of their last eight matches while Villa have found the net in each of the last six games and so betting on over 1.5 goals adds some value as a scoreless outcome seems unlikely.
