Newcastle United will look to arrest an alarming slide down the Premier League table when they host improving Everton on Saturday.

The Toon were up to sixth after beating Leeds United 4-3 at the start of January but now find themselves down in 11th and below the Toffees after a run of just one win in six in the league.

Team news

Eddie Howe is bound to make changes after Tuesday night's 3-1 win over Qarabag in the Champions League, though he still cannot call on injured captain Bruno Guimaraes.

Fabian Schar, Tino Livramento and Emil Krafth are also out, so Howe will be hoping Sven Botman shows no ill-affects from his run-out against Qarabag.

Jake O'Brien, suspended for Everton's 1-0 defeat to Man Utd, is set to be recalled at right-back with Vitaliy Mykolenko surely pencilled in for a return at left-back.

James Garner, a surprising makeshift full-back against United, can resume midfield duties with Beto poised to replace Thierno Barry in attack.

Loan star Jack Grealish is out for the remainder of the season.

The stats

Newcastle have lost four of their last five Premier League games, including each of their last two at home, against Aston Villa (2-0) and Brentford (3-2).

Everton have lost two in a row, both at home, but have lost only one of their last eight away league assignments.

There are an average 12.8 corners per each Newcastle home game, the highest number in the top-flight.

Ten of Everton's last 11 away matches have produced two goals or less.

Prediction

Everton, the team who have a relatively bleak history of performing in away games, have certainly got the hang of it in 2025/26.

Only leaders Arsenal have won more Premier League away games than the Toffees, with David Moyes' men tasting defeat only once on their travels since the middle of October.

The likelihood is, therefore, that they will have to weather a fair storm at Newcastle on Saturday but the evidence is they can stand firm.

And the right bet rather than siding with Newcastle at odds-on is looking at the Double Chance market and backing the Draw or Everton option.

The lazy assumption is that Champions League side Newcastle are the better side, but the league table tells a different story.

Howe's men have lost their last two at home, which appears to be no longer a fortress and if we know anything about Moyes' troops, it is that they will roll their sleeves up and thrive in a physical contest.

Moyes got his team selection wrong in defeat at home to the in-form Red Devils on Monday, but will surely not make that mistake again on Tyneside.
