Nuno Espirito Santo and West Ham could prove a difficult nut for Liverpool to crack
  • Liverpool won 1-0 at Nottingham Forest on Sunday

  • West Ham were held 0-0 by Bournemouth last weekend

  • Recommended bet: Draw

Liverpool's top four pretensions go under the microscope once again this Saturday when a West Ham side battling for their lives arrive at Anfield.

The Reds have picked up their form and have not conceded a goal in three games, but they will be wary of a Hammers' side still in the bottom three but having turned their form around since the start of the year.

Team news

The back injury that ruled Florian Wirtz out of last week's late win at Nottingham Forest is set to keep the German ace out for a while.

Wirtz joins Conor Bradley and Alexander Isak in the treatment room, though Arne Slot should have Jeremie Frimpong available after a groin issue.

Hammers' boss Nuno Espirito Santo is still without January signing Pablo Felipe while midfielder Freddie Potts sits out game two of a three-match ban.

The stats

Liverpool have won each of their last three - without conceding a goal - and five of their last six.

West Ham have lost only one of their last eight and drawn each of their last three.

The Hammers have collected 11 points from their last six Premier League games (W3, D2)

Liverpool's matches have seen a Premier League-high 13 goals scored in the 90th minute or later.

The Hammers have won just one of their last 52 away league games at Liverpool - losing 39 - with that sole triumph coming 11 years ago.

Nuno Espirito Santo has lost more Premier League games against Liverpool (8) than any other opposing side.

Prediction

History between these sides says this is a routine home win and the current Premier League table would tend to agree.

But few at Liverpool are taking West Ham lightly and with good reason.

The Hammers will step out at Anfield on a run of just one loss in eight in all competitions and having kept three clean sheets in four.

Boss Nuno has tightened them up at the back and turned the likes of Mateus Fernandes and Crysencio Summerville from cameo providers into consistent threats.

They are still in the bottom three but unrecognisable from the team Nuno inherited and they will be confident of playing without the ball, just as they did in their recent 2-1 win at Tottenham and 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

Liverpool, themselves on a run of three wins to nil, know they have the tools to hurt any side, though Wirtz’s absence is a blow while Mo Salah continues to disappoint.

The Reds have not lost this fixture since 2015 and were 2-0 winners at the London Stadium in November when the unloved and unmissed Lucas Paqueta was sent off for the hosts.

West Ham are better without Paqueta here, better since Nuno landed in the dugout, and their current form reflects both those statements.

Liverpool are short-priced 7/20 with LiveScore Bet but the better value play is probably the draw, which would be West Ham's fourth on the spin.
