Fabian Hurzeler's Brighton have emerged as potential Premier League title challengers
  • Liverpool have won three matches on the bounce, scoring 12 goals in the process

  • Brighton are on a four-match winning run in the Premier League

  • The Seagulls came into the weekend as the highest scorers in the division

Brighton's credentials as potential Premier League title challengers will be put to the test when they head to Anfield to take on Liverpool on Sunday. The Seagulls have been flying of late, winning six matches in a row across all competitions prior to an underwhelming midweek goalless draw at Jablonec in the Conference League. Liverpool's recent form has also been strong, as they have registered five wins in six, but their performances have perhaps not matched those results as Andoni Iraola continues to find his feet on Merseyside. Team News

Bradley Barcola has been passed fit to play for Liverpool despite load management concerns, but Victor Munoz is a doubt and Dominik Szoboszlai remains sidelined. Pascal Struijk remains a doubt for Brighton but Yankuba Minteh and Mats Wieffer are closing in on returns, although Sunday's trip to Merseyside may come too soon for both.

Need to know

Brighton are arguably the form team in the Premier League, winning their last four top-flight games by an aggregate score of 15-0. A title challenge may be beyond Fabian Hurzeler's side but they are very much in the conversation to finish in the top four. Liverpool will also expect to be fighting it out at the top of the standings, but they are yet to win a home league game under Iraola. Isak appears to finally be finding his best form at Anfield but the jury remains out on some of the Reds’ other big-money signings, including Wirtz, who joined for in excess of £100m.

Prediction

Brighton have been a breath of fresh air so far this season, notably beating Arsenal 3-0 and putting five past rivals Crystal Palace, and it is unlikely a midweek Conference League draw with Jablonec, when Hurzeler made plenty of changes, will have an adverse effect on their form. The Seagulls look good value to at least avoid defeat at Anfield, where Liverpool are yet to register a league win this season, losing to Manchester City and drawing with Nottingham Forest and Fulham, two sides that started the weekend in the bottom three. Goals should be almost guaranteed on Merseyside. Brighton are the division's highest scorers and have netted 15 in their last four league games alone, while there have been 19 goals scored in Liverpool's last three, including Tuesday's 4-3 comeback win over Villarreal in the Champions League. Diego Gomez has been a key figure for Brighton, firing off a team-high 19 shots, and he will need no second invitation to shoot following his goal from 51.3 metres out against Palace. While he may not be able to replicate those heroics, the Paraguayan is liable to let fly whenever the opportunity presents.
