Arne Slot will be hoping his side can add to their midweek win in the San Siro as they face Brighton
  • Liverpool have won just one of their previous five Premier League matches

  • Brighton have lost just once in the league since the end of October

  • Recommended bet: Over 3.5 goals

Liverpool sealed a surprise win over Inter Milan in the Champions League during the week, a result which is even more remarkable given their domestic form.

Since the start of November, the Reds have won only two Premier League matches and they trail leaders Arsenal by 10 points, despite winning their opening five league games.

Brighton find themselves in eighth spot, level on points with Liverpool, but having lost fewer matches than them this term.

They have won just one point from the previous six available, however, something that Fabian Hurzeler will be keen to improve on at Anfield.

Team news

Arne Slot will be without defender Giovanni Leoni and forward Cody Gakpo due to injury. Conor Braddley is suspended for the clash.

The future of Mohamed Salah is up in the air following his staggering outburst after being left on the bench against Leeds last time out in the league.

Will Slot give him game time? Who knows, after the Egyptian king was left at home for the trip to the San Siro.

Brighton will not be able to call upon Adam Webster, Solly March and Stefanos Tzimas for this match due to various injury problems.

The stats

Across the 18 matches between the clubs since 2017, a total of 60 goals have been scored.

Liverpool have won 10 of those matches, with the Seagulls emerging victorious on four occasions.

The last six meetings between the two sides have featured both teams scoring.

Additionally, over 3.5 goals has landed in six of the last 10 meetings between Liverpool and Brighton.

Brighton have scored more than their opponents in the top flight this term (25 vs 24 goals), while they also have a much better defensive record, conceding 21 times compared to Liverpool’s 24 goals conceded.

Danny Welbeck and Diego Gomez lead the scoring charts for the away side this term, scoring seven goals each.

For Liverpool, summer signing Hugo Ekitike leads the way, finding the back of the net on eight occasions.

Prediction

Liverpool’s Jekyll and Hyde form this season has been perplexing to say the least. In the Premier League recently, the Reds have been like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

When European fixtures roll around, however, Slot’s men have been solid, defeating Inter, Real Madrid and Eintracht Frankfurt, though they did suffer a 4-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven a few weeks ago here at Anfield.

Brighton have impressed this season and there is no reason why they cannot get a result at Anfield on Saturday.

Given the history between the teams, it could be goals galore on Merseyside this weekend.
