Liverpool are aiming to make it four wins from four in the Premier League when they host Leeds at Anfield on New Year's Day.

The Reds are now unbeaten in seven after recovering from a horror run of form throughout October and November but will not have it easy against Daniel Farke's men, who have now gone five games without defeat.

Team news

Liverpool are without Mohamed Salah, who is away with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, while striker Alexander Isak is unavailable after suffering a leg break at Tottenham.

Defender Joe Gomez has missed the last two games with a hamstring issue and midfielder Wataru Endo will be assessed after struggling with a minor ankle problem.

Leeds centre-back Joe Rodon looks likely to end a two-year streak of consecutive league appearances after hurting his ankle in Sunday's draw at Sunderland.

Sean Longstaff is a doubt with a calf problem, while Daniel James is out due to a hamstring injury.

The stats

Liverpool have scored 19 goals in their last five matches against Leeds, winning three and drawing one.

Leeds beat Liverpool 2-1 in their last trip to Anfield back in October 2022. However, the Whites have never won consecutive away games against the Reds.

Liverpool have conceded 12 set-piece goals this season, more than any other club.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored in six consecutive league matches and is the first Leeds player to do so since 1960.

Liverpool have not lost on New Year's Day since a 2005 defeat to Chelsea.

The Reds have drawn five of their last six games on January 1, drawing the other.

Prediction

Liverpool appear to have turned a corner after a nightmare run that all but ended their defence of the Premier League crown, and while another title triumph may be beyond them, a consistent run of wins is possible.

With home advantage, Arne Slot's men are big favourites to kick off 2026 with a victory over Leeds, though the Whites travel to Anfield in strong form.

Unbeaten in five Premier League matches, the Yorkshire side are now seven points clear of the drop zone.

However, Liverpool away should prove a difficult test and so the run is likely to come to an end.

While Liverpool are expected to win, backing both teams to score could prove a smart move.

The Reds have netted 19 goals in their last five matches against Leeds and will be eager to add to that tally.

As for Farke's side, they have scored 12 goals in five matches, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin has found the net in six consecutive games, scoring seven.

Liverpool have kept just one clean sheet in the last five games, conceding three to Leeds at Elland Road in early December, while the last eight matches involving the Whites have seen both teams score.
